It is with tremendous happiness that we announce that Scamp has finally found his forever home. Scamp has been in care for over 2 years. Scamp had been living in a horrendous situation and had been penned up in an aviary with his little friend Charlotte. Scamp came into care with visible evidence of neglect. His nails were like talons, his skin reddened and sore and his medical & nutritional needs has not been met for many years. We needed to find a special home for this gentleman. Scamp wasn’t the young, cute and adorable pooch that everyone seems to be magnetically drawn to. Scamp was on the older side, had medical issues but had a huge heart and a massive zest for life. We needed to find that special person that could look past his average exterior and see into his beautiful soul and be prepared to show him love, compassion and kindness. Well, we finally hit the jackpot and he has moved onto his own forever home. After spending so much time in care, it was sad for his carer to part with him but she knew this was Scamp’s destiny. Well done to all the team involved with this little mans journey. He has finally arrived home <3 #animal #dog #adoption #foster #Newcastle #NSW #Australia #adoptdontshop #oscarslaw #petrescue
I'm waiting here in foster care for you to come and see The one the others have passed by, please, stop and look at me! I'm not alone here in my quest to find myself a place Where someone will have love for me and softly stroke my face. We're not so young in years they say, although we're young at heart If you'll take a chance with us -- please know we'll do our part. Our faces have a bit of white, our legs a slower gait Our hearts so full of love to give -- but still we sit and wait. A younger dog is what folks want, one who romps and plays They won't take the time to look at us -- just think we're old and grey. Little do they know the things we have to offer them Manners learned and quiet souls -- good dogs all we've been. There are those here too, whose souls were damaged and in pain Before they came to this safe place and learned to trust again. When new folks come and look at them, they seem withdrawn and shy. Time is all they need to learn that new bonds they can tie. Patience, love and gentle hands is all they ask of you In exchange - their hearts they give you in their lives so new. We may not be the perfect dogs in everybody's eye Too big, too small, too brown, too slow, too black, too old, too shy. But unless you sit and take the time and see all that we can be You'll miss the best that is right here -- Please stop -- HEY -- Look at ME! Nova are looking for foster carers to join us and make life saving impacts on the lives of dogs in desperate need in our region. Currently the need is immense and the pressure it consistently places on all rescue groups is enormous. We are a tiny tiny rescue group now but 8 years ago we made the commitment to help dogs that have been failed by humans and by the system. We are 110% committed to that goal. If you have a desire to help us then please drop us a line and we can discuss the details of becoming a foster parent. You need to understand that it is with considerable dread that we ask for new foster carers as over the years we’ve quite often been in a position where people have severely let us down after making grandiose promises of commitment. If you have a genuine desire to help us in this life saving work then please touch base with us. However, please be considerate by not wasting our time & resources if you are only half hearted. Apologies for sounding harsh and jaded but if we gave examples of how people have frequently let us down you would be absolutely horrified. Fostering isn’t all “feel good”. It does require some work, some heart, commitment & common sense. Nova covers all medical expenses, worming & heartworm treatment ( Thankyou to a few beautiful supporters who fund these expenses) some food/bedding/leads etc, advice and support. All we ask is for you to provide the extra nutrition, safe harbour, basic training, patience, understanding and love. The Nova Administration team are committed to creating & supporting a team of knowledgable and professional Carers. The reward for your efforts is the inner knowledge that you have made a huge impact on a little dogs life and you’ve ultimately contributed to a family who have welcomed a little soul into their home. Canine adoptions have a huge, positive, life changing experience for all involved and is a situation that often nurtures friendships. Interested to join our team? Free at last! Free at last! Our latest little parolee has been integrated into a pooch pack and enjoying his new freedom. Unfortunately Clancy has led a bit of a hobo lifestyle letting his hair down (so to speak). We will be fixing that hobo look up quick smart and turn him into a handsome well groomed gent that he is. Once he has settled in and has his makeover, he will be on the lookout for a new permanent residence. #nova #pooch #rescue #animal #pet #dog #puppy #puppies #adoption #foster #Newcastle #NSW #Australia #adoptdontshop #oscarslaw #petrescue

Throwback Thursday - Tracey Findlay & Cole The call came in from one of our people. She had been alerted that there was a bloke at a local central coast shopping centre with a trolley full of underage puppies. Trying to sell them for a quick buck, maybe drug money but who knows and frankly who cares ..... underage, dehydrated pups sitting in a metal trolley for hours on end waiting for the highest bidder is a low act in anyone's books.
Somehow, with amazing detective skills our person managed to track down this idiots phone number ... :0 ... and called him. This was the start of some quicksilver negotiating and a few hair raising moments.
Long story short - because the details need to be kept private - we secured the babies. Despite our very best attempts we were forbidden to desex the mum. This is something we insist on. Desex, vaccinate & dental, If needed, for the mum if we are to take puppies into care. In this case we could not and it still rankles us, but these pups needed help.
Anyway, these adorable shopping trolly bubs were eventually safe after a lot of harassing, cajoling and negotiating. To recollect their beginnings they were gifted "shopping" names ie Cole(s), Aldo (i), Iggi (IGA) Macy (Macey’s) #animal #dog #adoption #foster #Newcastle #NSW #Australia #adoptdontshop #oscarslaw #petrescue #TBT #throwbackthursday
