Saffy is a sweet little girl who tends to the excitable end of the behaviour scale and so must be rehomed to a stable, loving and understanding environment. This behaviour is exacerbated by stress which poor little Saffy has had her fair share of throughout her short life. She has improved dramatically since coming into care and as she has settled into her new environment where she has been given firm and consistent boundaries.
Saffy is best suited to live with larger dogs than herself as, although she is ok with smaller dogs, Saffy’s bounding energy can be a bit too rough for littlies. Saffy is good with children but once again small or excitable older children in the family would not be in Saffy’s best long-term interests.
Sadly we believe Saffy has lived most of her life without the company of other dogs and ignored by her human family. Consequently she did not know the socially acceptable way to act when she met other dogs. Saffy has been learning the correct way to socialise with other dogs and improve her good manners around humans. She is doing VERY well and her carer is proud of her progress. Learning basic commands and living with firm, consistent and fair boundaries from her human foster family has made the world of difference to Saffy.
Being very food orientated has helped, so she has quickly learnt the basic commands .. sit, stay, lie down and heel, with her star command being recall – which is instantaneous – you see Saffy just oozes love for humans.
Saffy is a lovely little dog and we now need a family who will continue to provide her with consistency and love. The ideal balance would be someone who wanted to continue with obedience training or perhaps would consider agility classes as Saffy loves to work to please her human. Saffy needs some experience from her new family so will not be rehomed to very novice dog owners.
Please don’t be misled into thinking Saffy needs a cross training-super active-triathlete loving-sporty family though!! Saffy’s energy needs can easily be met with a good walk, a quick session of basic training (including treats of course!) followed by snuggles on the lounge or sitting at your feet while you read or work on the computer. A commitment to providing consistent and fair boundaries is the key!
Nova is offering a training pack to help Saffy and her new family get started on a path of fun and love.
If you would like to meet Saffy, she is currently in foster care at North Arm Cove, NSW; Date of Birth: 05/12/2011
